goal crushers 2015

Some runners, cyclists and triathletes head into hibernation for the winter. But, those who know their best is still yet to be run down know the importance of winter training and are charging the streets with RUN for the LOVE of it. You might be asking why? Winter seems like the perfect time to cuddle up, throw on some extra layers and let leisurely sip your hot cocoa. Well, what if we said that you could do both! And, by running through the winter, you will run stronger all year? Top 5 reasons to winter train with RUN for the LOVE of it.

1. Winter training for Spring races = fast Summers and Falls
RUN for the LOVE of it uses the winter to work on form, imbalances and speed to make sure we hit our stride as soon as the spring races hit. With a strong foundation built through the winter, we can focus on one thing; getting stronger and faster as we race through the summer and fall to distances and times we never thought possible.

2. Push your heart and push your mind
You all know that running is good for the heart and the muscles, but what about the mind? Running changes who we are. Not just physically but mentally. We set limitations. We tell ourselves what we can and cannot do based on our past experiences. But, you know what? That is all B.S. Run with a group that will teach you to believe in you. Believe that you can hit that pace. Believe that you can reach that distance. We already believe it. Learn what it feels like to live without those limitations one running step at a time. Once you break the barriers on the run, there is no telling where else your life will soar.

3. Don't be Average
Studies show the average person gains anywhere from 2-8 pounds over the winter and, THEY. NEVER. LOOSE. IT. Add that up over the next 20 years, and ... well... you get the picture. Now, we hate when gyms or trainers tell you how many calories their workouts can burn an hour, because there are so many variables. However, running a 10 minute a mile pace burns approximately 500-650 calories an hour. And, according to a recent study posted in Self Magazine, running in cold temps helps you burn an extra 15%. So, let's leave the extra love under the tree, not on our hips this winter season.

4. Motivation & Accountability
Have you ever come home from a miserable, windy, snowy run and realize the glow isn't just in your cheeks? When we have to fight harder for something (i.e. finishing a tough training run) our endorphins kick in to high gear! But, we all know when it is dreary out our mind starts to make up excuses for us. You deserve that runner's high, and it doesn't take much to make sure you get it. Join a group that will keep you accountable. Make sure you have a coach that will notice if a run didn't upload. There is no better motivation then knowing that 20 other people are going to know if you wussed out and stayed inside while they battled the elements.

5. IT is FUN
Running is a solo sport. Only you can put the work in to reach your dreams. There is no magic pill or trick to make you get their easier. But, along your running path we encourage you to join a group like RUN for the LOVE of it, and meet other runners to help the miles fly by faster. The best part of running is the friends you make along the way. RUN for the LOVE of it's winter training has runners training for races all over the country.
