lifelong local spotlight – tasia steffensen

As you may have seen and heard, here at lululemon, we are  always looking to elevate and support those in our local Park City community, and shine a light on the incredible things that our people here in town are up to.

Today, we’re featuring Tasia. We first met her while she was assisting Ariel Ford’s beautiful yin yoga class during Sundance. She helped us get even more in tune with our bodies and breath, and it was such a treat to have her hands guide us  deeper into the poses. We couldn’t pass up the opportunity to learn more about her!

Tasia grew up in Park City, and has been a local her entire life. When asked what her favorite thing about our town is, she immediately answers “The community!” . Then, after some thought, she backtracks.

“What I truly love is that this place feels like home”. Park City is where her roots are, where they always have been, and she loves that secure feeling.  Tasia truly is rooted here; she is a dental consultant by day, and on the side, teaches and practices yoga, raises her two children, and chases challenges. She’s run no less than six Ragnar Races, plus a few other intense relay challenges, and is signed up with a team for the Running with Ed race here in Park City on May 16.  She, her mom and sister complete the race every year to promote and support a local cause, and to celebrate the town that they all love. This summer, she’s also competing in her first-ever triathlon. She laughs as she tells me this, saying that she doesn’t own a bike, and isn’t much of a swimmer, but thought it would be fun!

“ My husband thinks I’m crazy, but I’ll figure it out! “

And of course she will. Her spirit embodies that of our entire town. We aren’t afraid of a challenge, and are truly up for anything, as long as we can be outside, taking advantage of the beauty in which we live.

While Tasia is a regular at Tadasana Yoga Studio in Quarry Village, she has also recently joined Crossfit Miner’s Town, and loves it. Crossfit brings a totally different physical challenge than she gets from hot yoga or running, and is another great group of people to connect with.

When asked how yoga fits into all of her many other activities, she doesn’t have to think long before answering.

“It makes me be more present in everything I do – in family life, at work, and it makes me more enjoyable to be around. Also physically, it helps me keep doing all the other stuff I do”

It's this part of yoga that made her want to teach. In college, she took yoga for the first time, and saw that in Park City and the surrounding area there was, and still is, a huge need. She took a teacher training about seven years ago, and now teaches at a small private gym in Oakley. What she loves most is helping people open up to a totally new experience, especially in Oakley, where most people who come in have never done yoga before.

We loved talking with Tasia, and can’t wait to see her again, either on the trails, at Ariel’s yoga, or one of our amazing classes in town.
